It is never fun to be stranded when you have relied on your vehicle to take you from point A to point B, but when you have kids in tow, the situation can get even more frustrating, not to mention alarming. Keeping your little ones contained and occupied while waiting on a tow truck to come to your aid may seem like a trying feat, but with a few simple rules, your kids will remain calm for the most part while you wait. There is an ABC rule set that you can take note of and recall if you do ever find yourself stranded in a vehicle with your little ones.

Ask the children inquisitive questions about their surroundings.

This may sound a bit off beat, but keeping little ones occupied in a stranded car can sometimes be as simple as quizzing them about their surroundings. Because the opportunity allows you to have your children in a situation where they must stay put, there is no time like an unexpected breakdown to play a game of 20 questions. Ask them questions about visible road signs, noteworthy landscape characteristics, or even cars that are passing by.

Be calm yourself and encourage your children to do the same.

Children are notorious for mirroring the reactions of their parents or the adults that they are around. If you become agitated, upset, or frightened by being stranded, your children will likely follow suit. Do your bet to remain calm and show the kids that there is nothing to be afraid of while you wait for the tow truck to arrive. It may even help to talk about what will happen when the tow truck arrives because to your children this may be a new experience.

Create an interesting atmosphere for your children.

You may be stuck inside of the car for a bit, but there is no reason why you cannot have a little fun with your children while you wait. Get creative with what you have on hand to keep the kids entertained. Hang jackets or blankets up on the windows if you have them and pretend that you are on a camping adventure. Use the cell phone to take turns playing silly ringtones and singing along. Make up games and use your imagination and don't be afraid to get completely silly just to entertain the kids while waiting for a tow truck like Big Valley Towing to arrive.
